The election may only be a month away, but we're just getting started here at Trent Votes. Did you miss our latest updates? Here is a wrap-up of all our events, interviews and what to watch for in week 2.
Clubs & Groups day Wrap up
Our campaign officially launched at Clubs and Groups day. This year there were approximately 90 groups at Bata Podium, all run by students and engaged in the Trent and Peterborough community. We were very excited to have Elections Canada at Clubs & Groups day to talk about how to register to vote, what kind of ID you need, and where you can vote. Elections Canada also spent part of the day (11:30am to 2pm) by Wenjack registering students to vote in the election.
There were three tables set up by student political clubs. The Trent Young Liberals, Trent Conservatives, and Trent NDP were all on campus at Clubs and Groups day with fun material for students to look at and participate in. Students had the opportunity to volunteer or sign up for a lawn sign to show support for their favourite candidate.
Around 12pm, local candidates arrived to visit with students. Dave Nickle, Mike Skinner, and Maryam Monsef were all at Clubs and Groups day and spoke with Trent University students about the importance of voting, how to register to vote, and why they felt it is important to engage. But they also answered questions students had about their own position and national party positions on a variety of issues (including jobs, student tuition, and the Peterborough economy).
This won't be the last time Candidates are on campus. There will be two more opportunities for students to meet with local candidates. On October 8th is our Meet the Party Party, which is a informal drop in event full of fun games and interactions; and on October 14th we're hosting our student issues debate.

Why Vote Panel - September 24th @ 4pm
This week our big event is a Student Panel titled "Why Vote." The event will be held at Traill College, in Scott House 105. This panel (featuring TCSA President Alaine Spiwak, TISA President Kristina Dergachova and more) will discuss reasons if they vote, how they engage in politics, and why we need to change the way we define political engagement. Questions and discussion is encouraged! This event is open to all of Peterborough, so invite all of your friends and family to join us! More info here.
