It's election day. Everything has led up to this moment, and the country is waiting to see if young people will get out and vote. There will be many conversations tomorrow about turnout, and youth turnout, and the next government. But we know Trent Students are politically involved, and will continue to change the conversation past this election. Do not let Canada tell you otherwise, you define what is political and how you will participate.
With that pep-talk, here are some important voting day reminders:
1.) You MUST go to your proper polling station. If you live down town, you have to go to the polling station associated with your address and cannot vote at Trent University. You cannot go to the wrong polling station, if you do you may (and most likely will) be turned away and told where to report to in order to vote. This is really, really, really, important. Especially if you plan on voting later in the evening (polls close at 9:30pm!).
2.) Living on campus? You can vote at the Athletic Centre Gym. Need proof of your Peterborough address? Visit the Housing Services in Blackburn hall for a proof of residency letter.
3.) Need a ride? Thanks to our sponsors you can catch a bus from 12pm-5pm (once an hour, at the top of the hour) from Bata to Downtown Peterborough. This will allow you to skip the stop-and-go bus routes during the busiest time of day.
3.) If you have not registered to vote, you can do so at the polls. Find your poll at Elections.ca and bring proper ID (you use the same ID to vote and register). Just remember you have to prove your PETERBOROUGH address!
4.) Did you vote? Be sure to join us for an election day party from 5pm to 10pm at the Ceilie.
5.) Not sure who to vote for? You can look at national party platforms at IcanParty.ca, and check out our full list of resources.
Need some help? There are a team of active and awesome volunteers from Trent community organizations around on campus (they'll be outside of Wenjack throughout the day), and Trent Votes is available to answer questions through our Facebook page and Twitter.
Happy voting!
