So by now, you've heard about us. We're Trent Votes, and we're here to get into your political business. Hilary and I have been discussing this idea since April, and we're excited to finally get to share some of the details.
Here is what we can confirm so far:
This all sounds great -- How can I get involved?
Oh, fantastic! That's what we were hoping to hear. We'd love for anyone, and we mean ANY student, to get involved in this campaign. You don't have to be majoring in Political Studies, or International Development, or whatever else you can think of to participate. The first step to getting involved in Trent Votes is contacting us. We need to hear from you! So either fill out the form on our website, or you can eMail myself personally at [email protected].
We're in the process of planning and picking some dates for volunteer training in early September (more information on that later). The best part? There will be at least one training online, so you can do it from the comfort of your own home.
We really do want to hear from you. Generation Votes was a success because of the passionate group of students who took on the work of the campaign. We hope that the Federal Elections will be only the beginning for Trent Votes -- but we need you to make this happen.
If you are interested in partnering with us, please fill out the RSVP form below and we'll add you to our mailing list. We're inviting all Student Organizations and Leaders on Trent's Peterborough campus to join us in this new conversation on campus.
Until next time,
Ashley
President of TUPS
Here is what we can confirm so far:
- There will be a TON of events to challenge how students think about politics. And these events will be student focused. Want to hear from students who vote? Great, we're planning it. Want to hear from students who don't vote? Fantastic! We'll hear from them too.
- Trent University Politics Society will be at Clubs and Groups day, and we'll be answering any and ALL questions about Federal Elections. Including: how do I vote, how do I register to vote, should I vote, why do you all like politics so much, etc.
- What about hearing Faculty members? We're working towards hosting a panel of Trent's faculty members to discuss the declining participation of Canadian Youth in political elections. Is this something we should be concerned with? Are they engaging elsewhere? Like, what's up with this? It will be cool, it will be thoughtful, and it will definitely challenge how you think.
- Are you bringing the debates here again? If by here you mean Trent's peterborough campus, we're absolute freaking-loutely planning on it. One of our 'Generation Votes' campaign highlights was the mayoral debates hosted in the Great Hall. We'd like to invite all candidates in the Peterborough-Kawartha riding to Trent University for a formal debate on student issues. We'll get you the details ASAP.
